Diagnosed #4 in a series

I was going to share with you the story of Shay the nurse in this post but decided to write about her in post # 5 instead, to allow me to share with you a story of bravery, hope and heroism.

One of my motorcycle riding partners called and invited me to ride with an organization he belongs to,Rolling Thunder,a group of military veterans who love God,their country and motorcycles.I must say it was an honor to ride with this group on a beautiful Sunday in Nov.

The purpose of the ride, which began at C&S Harley, was to visit a courageous young man on his birthday,Kevin Downs , just turned 22 years old   .When I think of  Kevins diagnoses my heart and prayers go out to him.Kevins life was changed forever in a split second on a road in Iraq, when the Humve he was riding in was blown up by enemy artillery. This remarkable young man lost both legs, lost the use of his left arm and suffered burns over 68% of his body.In spite of all his injuries he exudes a very positive attitude and is planning on a career in counseling in the future. After my visit  to Kevins I realize how fortunate we are and how thankful we all should be to the young men and women like Kevin who put themselfs in harms way everyday so that you and I can live free in our wonderful country.

Thank you Kevin and thanks to Rolling Thunder Tn.chapter #1 for allowing me to ride with you.

A quick update on my cancer:I went back to my doctor at Vanderbilt on tues to review the new scans.Unfortunately I have several new tumors both on my spine and left side,as well as continued pain in both arms.We are consulting with a new doctor this Fri.to hopefully determine a plan of action regarding chemo and radiation.Continued thanks to each of you for your prayers and support.Pls keep young Kevin Downs in your thoughts and prayers as well.God bless each of you this week.Hal
