Busy Summer

Greetings to everyone. I don’t know about you but this has been a very busy summer. As many of you know, we have a new grandson, Hayden Alexander, who has now reached the ripe old age of 7 weeks. Dickie and I were in East Tennessee this past week to visit him as well as baby Harry who is now 2 years old. I apologize for not keeping the blog up to date better. I will try to improve in the future. As for what is going on in my life: This has been a very busy summer health wise. I have undergone several scans both full body, bone and brain as well as C.T. scans. The worst part about the scans other than having to be perfectly still is the liquid you have to ingest prior to the procedure. For the C.T. scan you have to drink 2 pints of barium, a chalk type liquid, which is pina colata flavored? and then an IV of radioactive isotope for the bone scan. So far the scans have been positive, no new cancer or enlargement of existing cancer. Yea God! I am still on daily chemo and taking infusions every 2 weeks. Additionally I injured my left arm in late June and have had trouble with it ever since. It has now gotten to the point where I have almost lost total use of the arm. I can’t even lift a coffee cup without pain. I went to an orthopaedic physician in July and was told that I had a sprain. I was told to exercise my arm 3 times a day. After 3 weeks of exercise it seems to have gotten worse. I have tried for 2 weeks to get a second opinion but no other doctor will see me without recommendation from the original orthopaedic. We were finally able to get an appointment with the doctor who put the steel plate in my arm last year. We see him Tuesday: will let you know what happens. In preparation for that appointment, I had an MRI on Friday. They also x-rayed my arm. The tech was apparently new because he almost broke my arm in an attempt to position it for the x-ray while I was laying on a table. The pain was so intense I actually started crying. Finally, after some words with him he took the x-ray with me standing up. In the year I have been fighting this disease, I have found that you have to be 100% proactive when dealing with the medical people as they very seldom ask you many questions, i.e. I should have told Mr. X-ray Man that I had a steel plate in my arm. Oh well, live and learn. On a more positive note, Preston Taylor Ministries, an organization I have been closely involved with for several years, has received the support of Cross Point Church. Cross Point has graciously agreed to donate 5 weeks of time in addition to a contribution to help build a new playground. Please visit P.T.M.com to learn more about the ministry. Another positive note: our business this year has been very good. We continue to get new referrals every week. This is in spite of all the naysayers saying that real estate is in decline. We live in a wonderful place and I thank God for all my friends. On another positive note: I had the oopportunity to speak to 350 real estate people last week at the Real Estate Investors of Nashville meeting. Thanks to R.E.I.N. (REINTN.net) for such a warm response. By the way, if you would like a speaker for an event, civic club, etc, please give me a call. Well I better close, but before I do I would like to say thanks to each of you for all your thoughts and prayers and remember “This world we’re living in is mighty hard to beat. We get a thorn with every rose but aren’t the roses sweet”. God Bless each of you - Hal
